Theoretical approaches to a music promo

Andrew Goodwin’s outlook on Theoretical approaches within a music promo.

·         Music videos demonstrate genre characteristics in their videos

o   For example metal contains a dark setting and lots of performance.

·         Record labels demand close ups to show off a bands look or style.

·         A perspective of the people in the videos is frequently used.

o   For example looking at screens or looking through telescopes, commonly used in the pop genre

·         There is regular references to films, TV programs and other music videos (Intertexuality)

In our music video, we have use genre characteristics in the amount of performance we have in our video. I think that if we didn't have a large percentage of performance in our video, then it wouldn't suit the genre. However i think if the dark theme was kept then the performance may not have a massive effect on the video.
