Prelim Evaluation

I felt that the result of prelimary task went extremely well. I think we were able to link the original band, The Beach Boys, and link the song in with our video very well. I think this was down to the fact we took the lyrics and acted out, more or less, every line of the song.
I also think that the editing of the video went well. I think that the editing on the beat went well and I think that it could only be improved by adding more effects e.g. colour correction.

I think the main 2 things that need to be improved are the syncing of lips and instruments and the camera shots.
Most of the lip sysncing was accurate, however some of the group lip syncing was off and the guitar syncing was out. Therefore it didn’t really look like we were the musicians/singers.
Also, the camera shots weren’t steady, they were quite unstable which was off putting and didn’t give a professional feel to the video.

Analysing Broken Knees Lyrics

'Now that we have decided on our track and we have looked into analysing other artists' lyrics, we have looked at our lyrics and the meanings behind them, this was made easier by the fact that I wrote the lyrics and I know exactly what I was writing them about.
Analysing the lyrics will help us as we are using amplification in our video, so knowing what is meant to be portrayed in the lyrics allows us to get a clear indication of what ideas we can use in the video.'

Analysing Ed Sheeran's 'You Need Me, I Don't Need Me'

Video here

As you can see by the notes, Ed Sheeran has written a song thats explaining how he has done everything himself and that he is not another manufactured pop artist. He says 'I sing and write my own tune and i write my own very, Hell don't need another word-smith to make my tune sell', meaning he writes his own stuff and sells it, he doesn't need someone (a word-smith) to come and write 'his' lyrics/music for him. He also swears a lot in the song, showing that he is using his own vocabulary and isn't obeying the clean cut pop rules.

He also says 'Times at The Enterprise when some fella filmed me, A young singer-writer like Gabriella Cilmi', linking the song back to his roots. A venue where he used to perform; The Enterprise, situated in Camden, London. He also name drops another successful young artist Gabriella Cilmi who is the same age as Ed Sheeran and is extremely popular worldwide. Maybe hinting he is nothing special for his age, there are other young singers and songwriters all over the world.

The title and main lyrics of the song ('you need me, I don't need you') could be his reaction to major record labels. Between the years of 2009 and 2011, Ed Sheeran made a name for himself independently including a headline spot at Glastonbury on the Radio 1 introducing stage. However in 2011 Ed Sheeran was signed to Asylum Records and Atlantic Records and later that year (9/9) released his debut album, +, that sold 58,000 copies in it's first week.

Ed Sheeran proved to the World that an independent artist, with hard work, determination and mainly keeping their music their way, can become a Worldwide hit.

Prelim Album Art work

Whilst filming on our preliminary task, we took some promo pictures to use for our front and back voer, we used an old vinyl to be one of the props, this helps to link our video and the covers, we edited these through photoshop, on the front cover we cut out the front picture and placed in a picture of us, representing the band and we chose the back cover and used the same technique, however, we chose to put it in a black and white style to give it an older feel.
