Conventions of a Digipack and a Website

Digipacks these days tend to released as several different versions. There is the standard plastic case release, but more bands are releasing special edition cd’s. The CD’s are commonly released in cases that are made out of card because it is cheap and more aesthetically pleasing.

The examples below are all special edition releases that are made out of cardboard.

The standard cd release comes normally comes with a cd in a case with the booklet which includes pictures and lyrics and words of thanks from the band.

 The first conventional website is from US Rock band ‘All Time Low’. The band is very conventional and laid out in a very basic and easy to navigate manner. The links at the top of the web page there are the conventional links (eg news, music store etc etc) and the homepage is filled with the latest news of the band.

The second conventional page is a very basic webpage and the soul purpose of this website is to advertise the upcoming album. A lot of bands do this because they can have updates on social networking sites and use their website purely for advertisement.

Your Demise Website Analysis

The Your Demise website is a very marketed website. It has all of Your Demise’s partners above the navigation bar and an advert for their new EP which takes up around 2/3rds on the page. However I think this is good because it means that the webpage isn’t filled with unnecessary material, which won’t appeal to the fans.

The links at the top of the page are also relevant to the band as they are everything that a fan, or a web surfer will need to see. I also think the Music/Discography is a very good feature as most bands overlook their old music and want to advertise their new music.

Touché Amoré Website Analysis

The first website is American hardcore band is Touché Amoré. The website uses the popular website Tumblr. This is a very common strategy as Tumblr is free and you can follow people for updates. Meaning that an email subscription option, which is very common with bands, is not needed as they use Tumblrs own mailing options.

They have very minimal text to keep the website simple and they have their logo at the top of the page so the people browsing know what band it is. 

The band also have quick links to their twitter, facebook, intargram and youtube, so that people visiting the website can keep up with the bands updates, photos and videos on a variety of different social networking websites.
