Tigers Jaw Album Cover Analysis

The Tigers Jaw album cover is one of the most popular and well known album covers in the new USHC and punk scene.
The main things that can be taken from the cover of Tigers Jaw’s self titled release are wealth and people fitting in.
The pizza reference is to fitting in. In the hardcore, punk and pop punk genres, people claim that pizza is the centre of the genres. Tigers Jaw are a very unconventional hardcore punk band, they use keyboards and acoustic guitars in some songs, so the use of pizza on the front cover may be a marketing idea, to say to people looking at the album ‘we are like any other hardcore punk band.’
The name is also very conventional as they have put the name on the album in a very clear position.

Storyboard for performance and Storyboard for the new narrative

The top storyboard (drawn by Kieran Hill) features both the performance and the narrative that we plan to have in our video. We will be using the storyboard to give a strong foundation on what we will film on the day and how we will order the footage once filmed.
The second storyboard is a redo of the narrative as we felt the first narrative wouldn't have been as affective as we'd hoped.
Both storyboards have the shot type underneath so we know what the shot we need to use.

Deconstructing the track

Throughout the track, we will be able to film different people in the band and different parts of the narrative because of the music and the lyrics in the song.
The song begins with a piano piece, which is very peaceful. We could have slow narrative footage and use a common method, which is showing each member of the band before the music kicks in.
The music kicks in and there are no lyrics, meaning that the concentration will be on the guitarist, bassist and drummer.
The lyrics then kick in, meaning the focus will be more on the vocalist and on the narrative because the lyrics will be coming from the vocalists’ mouth and will link to the narrative so the audience will want to focus on that.
This will be the same for the following verse, chorus and breakdown. However in the breakdown, as there are no lyrics, the camera will focus on the guitarist, bassist and drummer.

For the final chorus the camera will then focus on all of the band members, sharing the amount of shots each member gets for the outro.

Hardcore Music Video Analysis 3

Citizens music video for the song ‘The Summer’ is a music of a performance filled video and a lyric based video.
The video starts with the opening lyrics of the song. The lyrics being shown on the screen continues throughout the video at specific times, and at important times such as chorus lines. I think this is affective because they incorporate some animations in to the video as well as the lyrics. They’re very artistic, creative and abstract. I think this method works well because it is taking something that is very regular in hardcore videos and making it more unique.

There is a lot of performance in the video. It is mainly filmed with close ups to give the viewers a very up close and personal experience with the band. There are also very few full band shots included. However all members of the band are shown equally suggestion equality

The rest of the shots were mid shots, giving the audience a main look at the band’s instruments. This may because the director wanted to show the audience how talented the band are. The mid shots are also filmed behind pieces of furniture and next to walls, suggesting that there is some mystery behind the filming and its almost like someone is overlooking it.
